Safeguarding children and adults at risk
The parish of St Alfege Church takes the Safeguarding and care of adults and young children very seriously.
St Alfege Church works to provide a safe environment for the whole church family, especially children and adults at risk. We aim to be a place where children and young people are nurtured and protected: where all people, and especially those who may be vulnerable for any reason, are able to worship and pursue their faith journey with encouragement and in safety.
We follow the national legal and procedural framework for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and Church of England policy and practice.
The safeguarding officers for St Alfege Church are:
Nick Hervey,
matazdad@hotmail.co.uk
Carole Moses
carolelowe@rocketmail.com
You can contact any of these officers if you suspect a child or vulnerable adult is at risk or if you have any questions about our policies and procedures. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority (children and adult services).
Church policies
We have one Safeguarding policy for both children and young people and vulnerable adults. This policy was reviewed and adopted by St Alfege Church Parochial Church Council (PCC) on 20 September 2017. The policy is reviewed annually and displayed at the back of church on our notice board.
Church procedures
We act promptly on any complaints made, and work in close partnership with police and social care services where children or vulnerable adults have been harmed or are at risk of harm or mistreatment.
We provide safe recruitment, training and support to our voluntary and paid workers with children and vulnerable adults. This includes DBS checks for all our children’s church leaders. We also aim to hold relevant safeguarding training annually for our many volunteers.
More information can be found on the Diocese of Southwark website or Southwark Cathedral
All volunteers with our children's church require Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. Please see attached documentation.
