Lunchtime Recital Series |

Thursdays and Saturdays | 13:05 | Free Entry

St Alfege Church presents free lunchtime recitals every Thursday and Saturday at 13:05.

We have a close and longstanding relationship with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and many of these concerts are performed by students from the institution, particularly on Thursdays.

Our Saturday programmes tend to draw from a wider net, showcasing a variety of local, national, and international talent that encompasses many genres and disciplines.

The musical and artistic journey of this historic building spans many centuries; as The Heart of Greenwich, the St Alfege Church team is committed to being vibrant stewards of this ongoing story for artists and audiences alike. We welcome new ideas, feedback, and thoughts on how we might better serve the artistic needs of this community.

If you are interested in performing in this series, if you wish to propose a concert/event outside of this series, or if you are interested in engaging creatively with the church in any other way, we would be very happy to discuss your proposed performance/idea and the suitability of St Alfege Church as a venue with you.

Please contact Rhian Davies, our Concerts and Recitals Coordinator, for further information.

Playful, narrative, theatrical. A fantasy world of mechanical puppets comes to life in the sound world of masterpieces such as Ravel's duo for violin and cello. The programme plays out like a kind of film in which, suspended between day and night, eerie sounds and harmonious dances coexist.

Lavyn Ensemble explores the chamber music repertoire written for violin and cello. They combine grand 20th century works by composers like Kodály and Ravel with recent, lesser known compositions as well as arrangements of medieval, baroque and folk music. Violinist Melanie Gruwez and cellist Yunah Proost, met in their native Belgium during their studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and have shared many performance settings together over the past 10 years. Passionate about telling stories and creating atmospheres through music, they are premiering their new programme “When the Puppets are Dancing” this March in London on their eight strings! Expect music by Maurice Ravel, Lera Auerbach, Nicola Matteis, Jörg Widmann and more.

Lavyn Ensemble are performing the full version of this ‘When the Puppets are Dancing’ programme at 14.00 on Sunday 9 March at Burgh House, Hampstead - tickets and information are available via their website.
