Revd Simon Winn, Vicar
Simon has been Vicar of St Alfege Church since March 2021, having served for nine years in parish, Cathedral and vocations ministry in Wellington, New Zealand. He trained in spiritual direction with Spiritual Growth Ministries Aotearoa. Before that he was a vicar in Northolt, west London, where a community and young people’s project grew over a decade through local partnerships. Simon’s interests include community ministry, inspiring worship for all ages, Christian pilgrimage and inter faith reconciliation and peacebuilding, particularly in Israel-Palestine. He also serves as Area Dean of Charlton - overseeing our local grouping of C of E parishes on behalf of the Bishop.
Revd Dr Tati Gutteridge, Curate (currently on maternity leave)
Tati became Curate of St Alfege in June 2022, after training for ministry at St Stephen’s House, Oxford. She has previously completed a PhD in Theology at the University of Oxford, about Christian worship music and the theology of sin. Her broader research interests concern Christian worship and liturgies of various flavours, from sacramentalism to exorcism.
Revd Stephen Nshimye, Assistant Priest
Stephen is a self-supporting priest who leads the Okutendereza Mu Luganda community which worships here monthly.
David McEvoy, Reader
A Lancastrian by upbringing, David has been an active member of St Alfege Church congregation since 1988. He spent most of his working life in trade union education. David qualified as a Reader (Licensed Lay Minister) in 2017 and enjoys the role – preaching, helping with services, and providing pastoral support. David also works in the church office on Thursdays, supporting the wonderful team of volunteers who keep the church open throughout the week. David lives with his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Helen. He enjoys choral singing, walking everywhere, watching birds and reading history.
Carole Moses, Southwark Pastoral Auxiliary (SPA)
Carole has lived in Greenwich for over thirty years and was commissioned as a SPA in 2008. She is part of the St Alfege pastoral ministry team alongside the Vicar and Readers. She organises the weekly worship at Queen Elizabeth College alms houses and handles our baptism enquiries. She also holds the position of music librarian. Outside the parish, Carole is a Day Chaplain at Southwark Cathedral, a volunteer Chaplain at Lewisham Hospital and Chaplain to the Fire Brigade in Greenwich and Plumstead.
Dr Irene Bishop, Churchwarden
Dr Irene Bishop CBE was born in Greenwich (née Irene Birkett) and has been a member of St Alfege Church since her baptism in May 1949 making her one of the longest serving members of the congregation. She is married to Chris Bishop and has two sons and a grandson.
Irene taught in inner London state schools for 42 years, and was Head of St Saviour's and St Olave's School for 19 years until her retirement from this post in 2013. As a National Leader in Education (NLE) since 2006 Irene has given support to a number of schools in difficulty. She co-founded Southwark Schools Learning Partnership (SSLP) which aims to break down barriers and build links between the independent and state sectors. Irene was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours 2012 for Services to Education. She continues to play an active part in Education as a Trustee of two charities and Governor of two schools, including Chair of Governors at our church school, St Alfege with St Peter. She is a Day Chaplain at Southwark Cathedral. Dr Bishop’s passion is education. She fiercely believes that every child can achieve, whatever their background, and that schools and teachers can and should make a difference. Irene can be contacted here
Simon Gallie, Churchwarden
Simon, originally from Aberdeen in Scotland, moved to Greenwich in 1997 and joined St Alfege Church in 2010. He is a member of the Church Choir and prior to being elected Churchwarden in 2023 had been Honorary Treasurer of the Church since 2018. He is also a Governor at the Church School, St Alfege with St Peters and Member of the Thomas Tallis Society. Graham Voke, Treasurer
Graham, originally from Edinburgh moved to West London in 1986 and then to Blackheath in 1987 and has been a member of the church and choir since that time. Singing is his passion and has sung in a number of choirs. Professionally Graham has had a 40 year career in Financial services and retired in April 2023 to pursue his hobbies and was invited, and accepted, to take up the position of church treasurer. Benjamin Newlove, Director of Music
Anne Burton, Volunteer Development Manager
Anne joined St Alfege Church in January 2019 as part of the Heart of Greenwich place and people project supported by the National Lottery Fund in her role as volunteer Development Manager. Her role is to increase and support the volunteer heritage team, ensure the church is open to visitors and develop hidden spaces tours of the church for everyone. She has worked in volunteer management for over 30 years with her previous post at The Old Royal Naval College. She volunteers for a local charity Bexley Interfaith Forum Food. She loves meeting new people and making new friends.
